Project Paragon: Wooden Toolbox
Recently there has been a change of how we are doing things in the group, we have nominated someone to start giving out assets to people in the group, who will then have to model, unwrap and texture the asset in a given time, if the asset is not created in the time allocated then it will be passed onto someone else. I think this is a good idea due to people getting a job to do and just leaving until last minute (me included). I feel this way I will get the assets done in a fast and productive manner, as the project is starting to slow down, I think this will speed up production and we will start to see the station slowly fill up with all sorts of assets.
I was given the task of modelling a toolbox for the station from the small asset list. Firstly I researched into what type of toolboxes there were back in those days and it seemed the majority were wooden. Here are some examples of simple toolboxes.
As someone had already created tools, we just needed something to put the tools in. As it is a small asset, it can be placed around various areas of the station, possibly any work sites or possibly in a corner somewhere next to buckets and crates.
It took me an hour to model, unwrap and texture the toolbox and I feel it has come out very well and fits in well with the style and theme of the station and era. I tried to make it look like it has been used for a while by adding dirt and dark areas. Below are some renders of the asset.
