Interactive Controller

We have been given a brief to research, design, develop and produce an “Interactive Controller” that will bridge the gap between the user and the digital product.

For mine, I thought I’d keep the simple, classic design of a normal controller but add an adjustable section in the middle of it. The adjustable section will be for a phone or device, nearly every smartphone will be able to fit in this section; as long as their width and height dimensions are below the size of the Samsung Galaxy Note phone, 146 x 83 mm. This is because this phone is one of the largest phones out at the moment. The phone will adjust by stretching an elastic strip to tighten around the phone being used.

When the phone is added to the controller, the user can go on to the phones app store and simply download a free application. This app is needed for compatibility, this allows the controller to be used with the desired phone, the app also allows you to map control buttons out to the users needs.

I was going to include a feature where the controller will snap down the middle so it can be carried more easily but this will effect the sliders that adjust the size as they are long and jagged, because if the phone snapped down the middle then the sliders will break; so I removed this feature.

Below are some sketches of what it could look like and then the final product I came up with.
